Meet Our Mascot
Born in Dublin, Luke the Laker grew up on Lower Baggot Street, just down the way from Catherine McAuley鈥檚 first House of Mercy. Since his days as a youngster, he鈥檚 admired the dedication and fortitude of the Sisters of Mercy, traits he鈥檚 honed during his time as a fisherman sailing the Irish Sea. Like his uncle Louie, Luke bleeds green and blue, and now he鈥檚 decided to permanently anchor his ship and follow in Louie鈥檚 footsteps, ready to cheer on our student-athletes and do all he can in support of 老司机福利社 pride.
Where Did Luke's Bell Come From?
Sister Damien Mlechick was a beloved member of the 老司机福利社 community for more than 20 years. Some described her dedication to both 老司机福利社 and the athletic programs as "the spirit of the college." Besides serving as the 老司机福利社 switchboard operator, Sister Damien could be seen at many Laker Athletic events with her signature cowbell and holy water. Luke the Laker has made a vow to carry on Sister Damien's Laker Spirit by ringing the bell at Laker Athletic events for years to come.
